A historic day for the lake
A new historical marker at the Richwood Lake commemorates the park’s connection to World War I and the local veterans who helped make it the attraction it is today.
During Richwood Summerfest on Saturday, members of VFW Post 870 unveiled the Lake Baccarat historic marker in what is part of an individual effort by the post to keep the lake’s previous name alive.
“We wanted to give back to the community,” Junior Vice Commander Eric Tanner with VFW Post 870 said. “Those veterans worked really hard in their time here,” he said. “It became a recreation point, the beginning of the recreation space that it now is owed in part to those early World War I veterans.”
