HeartMath teaches emotion control
School counselors at North Union Elementary School have implemented a new system called Heart-Math to help teach young students how to control their emotions through heart rate.
During a meeting of the board of education at the elementary school on Monday, Sam McManus, K-2 counselor, and Madison Neel, K-5 counselor, introduced the board to HeartMath. This initiative came as district officials looked for answers on what kinds of tools could be implemented to help children control unwanted behaviors like anger and stress.
“Through HeartMath, we are going to use it to teach the students how to self regulate so they can return to class quickly prepared and ready to learn,” Neel said.
