Several indicators point to the fact that swimming could be here to stay as a varsity sport at NUHS. One indicator is participation. Although it is still less than capacity, the squad grew to its greatest size in 2000-2001. Five girls and three boys started and ended the season. Another indicator is facilities. The NU swimmers currently train in the cramped Marion YMCA but will change in a couple of years. Marysville High School fielded its first varsity swim team this past winter. Besides NU, Pleasant, River Valley and Mt. Gilead sponsored teams in the MOAC. With increased access to facilities, it is very easy to imagine many more area high schools adding teams in the next five years.
