Proposed village ordinance could impact food trucks

Council tabled the final reading of a village ordinance for peddler and solicitor requirements after realizing that the code might put accidental restrictions on food trucks visiting Richwood.

At the regular meeting of the village on Monday, council motioned to approve the amended ordinances for solicitors and pedd lers. Chief of Police Jim Hill said the main aim of the ordinance is to combat solicitors with no background checks. The final vote paused after council member Brad Plotner pointed out that food trucks might be considered a peddler.

According to the ordinance, a peddler is “any person who travels from place to place carrying goods for sale and who sells or offers such good for sale directly to consumers.” Vill…
