County investment earnings top $1M in second quarter

Similar to last year at this time, Union County’s second quarter investment earnings exceeded a million dollars.
Treasurer Andy Smarra told the county commissioners recently that the county’s investments are solid, having generated $1.3 million in interest income earlier this year.
“That’s pretty much exactly the same as where we were in the second quarter last year,” he said. At this point in time, the county’s total investments and deposits on hand as of the end of June amounted to $145.3 million, which consists of $50 million in cash, $76 million in agency issues and $18 million in corporate bonds.
