Council to make decision on expiring road repair levy

Richwood Council will soon have to decide whether to go the ballot as early as November for its expiring road repair and maintenance levy.

Union County Auditor Andrea Weaver told village council on Monday that the road repair levy will make its final collection in 2027 regardless of what council chooses to do. The three-year, 3-mill levy currently generates about $100,000 each year for the village collecting at an effective millage of 1.8-mills.

Aside from letting the levy expire, Weaver said that council has the option to either renew the current rate, renew and increase the rate or let it expire and put a whole new levy on the ballot.
