Staffing could complicate future county plowing

The area saw its first measurable snowfall Sunday night into Monday morning and Union County Engineer Jeff Stauch said his crews are ready to tackle the winter weather.

While this first round wasn’t a major concern for Stauch’s office, the engineer said he does worry about larger storm events that might happen in the future as the county does not have enough resources for a second shift of plow truck drivers.

“We’ve only got enough staff and equipment for one shift, which just shouldn’t be for one of the fastest growing, or the fastest growing county in the state,” he said.”But we also have a lot of road to deal with, which might be different than some surrounding counties.” Crews have 473 miles of roadway to…
