Vetoes are a relief to area school officials

School officials around Union County are pleased with Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine’s veto efforts regarding the recent state budget process.
DeWine signed the state’s $60-billion spending bill at the end of last month but issued nearly 70 line-item vetoes for the bill, many of which dealt with controversial school funding matters.
In the months preceding the decision, superintendents, treasurers and school board members spoke out against a number of proposals that claimed to bring property tax relief to residents but ultimately could have threatened school funding across the state.
