Initial work on logjams pays small dividends

Did the logjam removal work impact flooding of Mill Creek this past weekend? Union County Engineer Jeff Stauch said it did, but only slightly.

“Unfortunately, there’s just no great way to tell how much of an impact it had,” he said. “Especially this early in the game.”

The logjam removal crew started working late last year and into this year near Waldo Road and east of that area. Workers removed more than 90 jams of varying sizes from Mill Creek. County officials said that the removal of four big, highly complex logjams lowered the water level two to three feet since clearing those locations.
