Heat waves are a danger for farmers

Despite Ohio’s first major heat wave of the summer seemingly dwindling, OSU Extension urges farmers to take extra precautions to protect themselves, their employees and their livestock from dangerous temperatures.

OSU Extension State Climatologist Aaron Wilson said forecast highs in the mid- to upper 90s, combined with high humidity recently push heat index values well above 100 degrees.

Heat is the leading weather-related cause of death in the United States, according to the National Weather Service, making preparation especially important for those who work outdoors.
