Driver charged, scene cleared in U.S. 33 spill

Hazard containment crews cleared and cleaned U.S. 33 and it was reopened to traffic by 10 p.m., Oct. 23, according to information from the Marysville Police Department.

The highway was shutdown both ways until late on Thursday, Oct. 23 for hazard cleanup after a Marathon semi-tanker was punctured in a three-vehicle crash and leaked a flammable fuel mixture in the highway median.

The driver of the tanker, Joshua Lewis, 48, of Muncie, Indiana, was cited for failure to assure clear distance ahead following the non-injury crash.

According to police reports, at 11:27 a.m., Oct. 23, Lewis was driving the Marathon semi-tanker westbound on U.S. 33 and did not notice traffic slowing down in front of him. He attem…
