Foreign languages booming in area

As Marysville grows, city institutions are adjusting to a more linguistically diverse population.

The influx of non-English speaking residents has created new communication challenges for hospitals, school districts and the local court system, prompting leaders to adopt technology and hire staff to ensure services remain accessible.

Health care
Memorial Hospital has seen a steady increase in patients who need language support. The trend, hospital officials say, has unfolded incrementally over the last several years and accelerated more recently, prompting operational changes and new investments in interpreter services.
