Disease strikes local deer population

The deer population within the state have been suffering from a disease outbreak.

Thankfully, the disease is not transmittable to humans but numbers have steadily increased in Union County.

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) is seeking the help of the general public for reports on dead or sick deer suffering from Epizootic Hemorrhagic Disease (EHD). The reports will help the department track other potential disease outbreaks.

“ Due to costs, we can’t test all the deer we get calls on so once we get a confirmed sample of EHD then we just take reports on it as long as it fits certain parameters,” State Wildlife Officer Brian Motsinger said.
