Leesburg F.D. saves on new ambulance

The Leesburg Township Fire Department, who are part of the Northwestern Joint Fire District, acquired a newly refurbished ambulance truck Wednesday in a move that expedited time constraints and saved money.

The refurbished truck cost the department $250,000 and arrived in two weeks – which cut costs in half and dropped the delivery time from years to weeks.

John Cooke, Assistant Fire Chief with the Northwestern Joint Fire District, said the station was looking for a new ambulance and found out it would be around $350,000 to $400,000 to purchase, along with a three-to-four-year wait for delivery.

“That’s a long time and we didn’t think our other truck would make it that far,” Cooke said, adding …
