Statehouse concerns continue

North Union’s board of education approved the five-year forecast as concerns within the statehouse continue to mount.

At the regular meeting of the board on Monday, North Union Treasurer Scott Maruniak spoke about the district’s fiveyear financial forecast, urging members to remember that it is based upon known information as legislation at the state level could impact revenues in the future.

The most glaring bill mentioned on the forecast is House Bill 96, which looks to limit school district carry over cash balances to 30% of the prior years expenditures to allow county budget commissions to suspend voted property tax levies and the 20-mill floor in order to reduce district reserves to the 30% target.
