Automated voice hits scanner airwaves

The Union County Sheriff’s Office is currently testing a feature that could save time and effort on 911 calls.

Those who occasionally tune into the scanner to hear Union County dispatch services might notice the new voice on the air. That’s Samantha, the name for the automated voice on the office’s new dispatching software from U.S. Digital Designs, the company that makes the system.

The automation is an add-on feature applied to the office’s updated computer-aided dispatch (CAD) system that started in November. At that time, the office switched its system to the public safety software from Tyler Technologies, an integrated software that provides a more streamlined workflow for the dispatch center.
