Local and Otherwise: Mr. and Mrs. A.C. Phelps and daughter, Anna Bell and Adaline, of Centerburg, motored to Richwood Sunday and were guests of Mr. and Mrs. J.C. Clark and daughter Lelah. – – Mrs. Geroge O. Fisher was taken from Mt. Sterling to the White Cross hospital on Tuesday and passed through a successful operation for infected mastoids. She is doing very nicely. – – Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Somerlot and children, of Marion, spent Sunday with S.P. Hawk and children, Grace and Geroge, and Mr. and Mrs. Roswell Perkins, of Columbus, were afternoon callers at the Hawk home.

May 27, 1926 Miss Grace Glassmeyer, in company with Miss Jane Roberts and Miss Dorothy Wood, of Columbus, will sail from New York, May 27 for a tour of France, Belgium and Switzerland. They expect to be gone ten weeks.

The Richwood Tigers turned in their top performance of all times as they scored 50 points to place second int eh Central District Track Meet at Delaware last Saturday. The meet was won by Marysville with 52 1-2 points. Both schools won 4 events and tied for the pole vault, however a few more good boys and a decided superiority in the field events gave Marysville the championship and Richwood the runner-up spot.

May 31, 1951 The annual commencement of Richwood High School was held Thursday night in the school auditorium when a class of thirty finished their course in the Richwood schools. Cemetery Service Will Honor War Dead, May 31: North Union Junior High Principal Dennis Snavely is the announced speaker for Memorial Day services scheduled at the Claibourne Cemetery. The American Legion Baccarat Post 40 announces plans finalization for this year’s annual observance, through their Commander John Willis.

‘Round the Town’ Look for it… Todd Gibson’s car got in the Indy 500… according to local sources, it was the last one to qualify… but it did at 181-point-somethin’ mph. Car No. 8, chief-mechaniced by Richwood’s Todd Gibson, will be driven by Jan Opperman from Montana.

The LaRue Sesquicentennial Committee announces the 22nd Oorang Bang will once again be held in downtown LaRue. Festivieties begin with the chicken barbeque at the firehouse, local talent on the stage, beer and brats and games for all ages. Special events for 2001 include local historian Jim Anderson’s guided historical walking tour, Jerry Sheibert’s Airedale dog show, steam engine demonstrations, Oorang Historical Society’s museum, and for the first time, the Water Wars game. The annual Oorang Bank commemorates the Oorang Indian Football Team, an All-Native American pro football team, led by the world’s greatest athlete, Jim Thorpe. The smallest franchise ever in the NFL was owned by LaRue dog-breeder, Walter Lingo, and was formed to promote his Oorang Airedale dogs.
