Gail DeGood-Guy spent over five months searching for Revolutionary War veterans in local cemeteries around the North Union School District. Her search eventually took her to gravesites on private land, as was the case with Robert Phares’ grave, pictured above. Phares was a veteran of the revolution that served in New Jersey before retiring to the Richwood area after the war. The location of his grave remains anonymous as it is located on private property. Veterans of the Revolutionary War found and identified in the NU School district

Four Revolutionary War veterans have been identified in cemeteries around the North Union School District just in time for Memorial Day.

The mission is part of America 250-Ohio, the official state commission responsible for commemorating America’s semi-quincentennial this year. America 250 announced a statewide effort to locate, verify and document the final resting places of Revolutionary War veterans buried in Ohio.

Trish Levering, who is the chairperson for America 250 in the Village of Richwood, recruited local retired Air Force veteran Gail DeGood-Guy to locate any Revolutionary War veterans in Richwood and the surrounding five township…
