County quarterly interest retreats a bit in revenue

For the first time in two years, Union County did not see record quarterly interest revenue from its investments.
Union County Treasurer Andy Smarra said the county remains in a strong financial position despite a changing interest- rate environment that is beginning to reduce investment returns from the record highs seen in recent years.
Speaking during recent discussions with the county commissioners, Smarra explained that Union County benefited significantly when interest rates rapidly increased following years of near-zero rates.
