Second-half property tax bills will arrive later than normal

Union County residents are going to receive their second-half tax bills a little later than anticipated but rates are still expected to be lower.

Treasurer Andy Smarra said the state is asking all 88 counties to resubmit tax information to be approved so rates can be calculated, but the likelihood of all that getting done by the middle of next month in time for bills to be sent out in early June is very low.

The state asked for an April 20 deadline, which Smarra said all the counties met, but officials still requested resubmission. He added that the April target date to get all of this done with the new changes was always going to be a bit of a push.
