Two persons had a thrilling escape and two business rooms were badly damaged early Tuesday morning when fire was discovered in the Hastings building occupied by Mrs. Daisy Boyd’s restaurant. The fire was discovered by J. Barkley and his son, who occupied rooms over the Boyd restaurant, and when first seen about 3 o’clock in the morning, had gained considerable headway. When Barley and his son were awakened by the smoke, the found egress by the stairway was impossible. A rope was fashioned from bed clothing and by this means the two reached the ground.
