Winter storm closes village organizations
From Gazette staff reports
The winter storm that hit Union County on Sunday forced several organizations in Richwood to shut their doors until the conditions improved.
Due to projected wind chill warnings and extreme cold, the North Union Local School District closed through Wednesday, Jan. 28 as students continued remote learning activities through the first part of the week. High school athletics were active though no middle school or youth programs had practice.
Following suit with the schools was the Richwood Civic Center, who announced that it would be closed through Wednesday as well due to freezing temperatures.
Mayor Scott Jerew announced on Monday that the village would be cancelling its council meeting on Monday night due to the weather. The next meeting of council is set for Feb. 9.
The Richwood Library closed on Monday for the level three snow emergency, but re-opened on Tuesday after the county dropped its snow levels.
Chefs’ Parlour held out strong as the business announced that it opened on Monday despite the winter weather.
For most of the village organizations, the important consideration was to see a drop in temperatures as the week progressed.
