When the snow fell, sheriff visited every corner of the county, observing conditions, talking to workers and helping a stranded driver

A recurring joke that popped up among several Union County agencies during the winter storm on Sunday was a superstition not unlike the ones seen in the sports world: never say that it has been “quiet” or “calm” when referring to 911 emergencies. Each offense of the unspoken rule led to some laughter among responders and some teasing to watch your mouth.

While these superstitions are nothing more than happy banter among emergency personnel, there is real weight behind the fear of emergencies at a time when response is limited by weather and the conditions present real danger for citizen…
