Grapplers find success in boys and girls wrestling tournaments last weekend

North Union finished fourth overall in “A” Classic wrestling tournament, held last Friday and Saturday, at Elmore Woodmore High School.

The Wildcats had six wrestlers place in the top eight, led by Collin Welch.

Competing in the 132-pound division, Welch took first place, winning a total of eight matches, including six victories by pin.

Corey Gilliam also had a good tournament in the 157-pound division.

He finished in third place, winning eight of his nine matches.

Other placers were Ben Bonnell (sixth, 150), Jason Rankin (sixth, 285), Mason Andrews (seventh, 190) and Luke Brown (eighth, 190).

Lady Cats compete in Freddie Invite

North Union finished eighth on Sunday in the Freddie Invitational girls wrestling tournament on Sunday at Fredericktown High School.

The Lady Cats scored 44.5 points.

Madison Goad led North Union, finishing second in the 155-pound division. She won two of her three matches.

Rylee Horne (120) and Kylynn Thompson (235) each won two matches to finish sixth in their weight division.
