County can now tax Airbnb, Vrbo

Short-term rentals in Union County will now be required to pay a lodging tax.
The county commissioners voted on Nov. 26 to approve a resolution that changes the definition of a hotel from having five or more rooms to having one or more rooms. That means that properties that are used as short-term rentals through organizations like Airbnb and Vrbo will have to pay lodging tax just like traditional hotels.
Karen Eylon of Union County Tourism brought this measure before the board earlier this month but it was tabled until information could be cleared up.
