Data from 45K people stolen in cyber attack

The personal information of 45,000 individuals was collected in the cybersecurity incident that hit Union County in May.

In a release sent out on Sept. 24, county officials said they detected ransomware on the computer network in the spring, which immediately triggered an investigation that continued through the summer.

“Through its investigation, the county determined that the cyber criminals accessed its network from May 6, 2025 through May 18, 2025 and took some county data,” according to the release. “The county then conducted a thorough review of the impacted data to determine: (1) what information was involved; and (2) who may have been affected.”
