Airport to lease ground for hangar project

The Union County Airport Authority voted 4-1 to approve leasing ground for private hangar development, but not before one board member and county commissioner aired concerns with the idea.

With ground-leasing passed, the airport is one step closer to offering land for private individuals to build single-volume hangars at the airport. Members Shaun Bailey, Bruce Rausch, Ken Denman and Philip LaPointe voted in favor of the lease.

The lone ‘no’ vote came from board member John Popio, who cited several reasons why he disagreed with leasing land for box hangars, but his biggest fear was the uncertainty of potential lessee’s.
