County pushes back on EDIP

The Union County Commissioners are still not quite satisfied with some of the approaches to the new Economic Development Incentive Policy (EDIP).

Board members told Economic Development Director Eric Phillips that more has to be done to consider how tax incentives impact the community in the long term.

Commissioner Tom McCarthy said the focus of these incentives and abatements should include costs, not simply what the benefits are.

“You can’t just look at benefits and not know what it’s costing us,” he said. “You would never make an investment that costs you more than you get.”
