Safety tips offered for severe winter weather

The Union County Health Department has provided safety tips in light of the winter storm that hit the area late Sunday night.

A winter storm can complicate things in the home, so it’s recommended to buy needed supplies and have a plan in the event of a loss of power.

One consideration is fire safety with home heaters.

Although it has trended downward, heating fires remained the second leading cause of home fires in 2021. An estimated 32,200 home heating fires were reported to fire departments within the United States. These fires caused an estimated 190 deaths, 625 injuries and $442 million in property loss.
