Patton opts to retire before end of term

Union County Sheriff Jamie Patton has decided to end his term as the county’s chief law enforcement official a little early.

He told the county commissioners at the meeting on Oct. 9 that he will be officially retiring from his office effective Oct. 31.

While he didn’t say exactly where he’s going, he said he does have a job lined up after leaving office.

“I’m going to retire with OPERS (Ohio Public Employees Retirement System) and so I’ll be leaving the office a little early,” he said. “Out of respect for my future employer, I can’t say (where) yet because they have not put things in place there with their staff so hop…
