North Union suffered a heart-breaking loss last Wednesday as the Lady Cats fell 2-1 to Benjamin Logan in Central Buckeye Conference girls soccer play at North Union.

After scoreless first half, North Union took a 1-0 lead with 11:32 remaining in the match on a rebound goal by Kylee Balzer.

But the Raiders scored twice in the final six minutes to win the match. Daylin Varner had both goals for the Raiders.

The loss put a damper on Senior Night activities as North Union honored seniors Lauren Hall, Rylan Riffle, Allison Stacklin and Leah Matlack.

“It was a tough loss, especially on Senior Night,” Head Coach Bill LeRoy said.

“We got away from our structure that we have been playing,” LeRoy said. “It is that simple.”

The structure the Lady Cats have been playing was short passes in getting the ball on the move.

LeRoy said they did not do that in the first half and instead had several long passes.

“We found the right combinations for part of the second half, but then fell back into what we had done in the first half,” he noted. “We want to connect with short passes, but we played big ball.”

North Union ended the regular season with an overall record of 3-12-2 and 0-9-2 in the CBC.
