Wildcats suffer late game loss to River Valley

North Union’s baseball team fought to the bitter end, but fell to visiting River Valley, 6-2, last Thursday.

The visiting Vikings (4-16) delivered the upset in the final inning of the non-conference matchup.

The Wildcats (11-8) claimed a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning.

After a scoreless third and fourth, River Valley knotted things up with their initial run during the top of the fifth.

North Union regained the upper hand in the home half of the sixth with one run.

River Valley, though, answered back with five runs for a 6-2 advantage heading into the bottom of the seventh.

The Wildcats were not able to respond.

Caden Potts was the losing pitcher.

For six innings, the senior allowed four runs on three hits. He struck out seven and walked five.

Connor Lassiter pitched one inning, allowing two runs on a pair of hits with a couple of strikeouts.

Winning on the mound for River Valley was Leland Doubikin. He allowed two runs on six hits.

He recorded eight K’s and issued a trio of free passes.

Both defenses produced two errors.

Miles Marlette notched North Union’s only RBI.

River Valley got RBIs from Aiden Grey, Hudson Pollock, Trace Kelly and Pate Crawford.

The Wildcats will return to the diamond Tuesday when they host Buckeye Valley at 5:15 p.m.
