Officials prepare for 911 levy expiration

By Michael Williamson, Richwood Gazette

Union County officials are preparing discussions on how to approach the sheriff’s office’s 911 levy as it nears its expiration date. Sheriff Mike Justice said the 911 levy committee should shoot for July to hold its first meeting to evaluate options for how the county’s emergency dispatch system will be funded. He said the current 1-mill levy is set to expire at the end of this year.

“I think there’s a couple of different options there,” he said during a recent meeting with the county commissioners. “Whether it stays on where it is or do we let it expire and reduce it from 1 mill to a 0.85 mills or do we look at a sales tax that’s spread out?”
