West Jefferson edges NU with win after a six-inning pitcher’s duel

For six innings on March 25, North Union and West Jefferson were locked into a pitcher’s duel.

Lady Cat pitcher Leah Cox and her West Jefferson counterpart, Jenna Mannon, each gave up just one run during that time.

The seventh inning belonged to the Roughriders as they scored five runs in the top half of the inning and then held off North Union for a 6-1 victory at NU.

Mannon, who had drove in West Jefferson’s first run with a home run in the sixth inning, had the key hit in the seventh, slamming a tworun triple.

North Union tied the game in the bottom of sixth as Kale Keigley scored from third on a wild pitch.

NU also threatened in the bottom of seventh.
