Sheriff, NU begin anew with SRO conversation

The key word of Monday’s board of education meeting was transparency as the sheriff met with North Union officials to clear the air regarding cost concerns with the student resource officer (SRO) position.

In October, Union County Sheriff Mike Justice met with the county commissioners and discussed working out new contracts with North Union and other school districts that pay less money for their UCSO deputies, with the idea to make costs more fair across the county. At the board’s October meeting, members pushed back on his comments, arguing that North Union is different from other districts in the county. The board called for the sheriff’s department to have transparent negotiations with the district at a meeting in December.
