Things looking up to slow drivers down

Law enforcement agencies in Union County are using an eye in the sky once again as part of its ongoing effort to enforce safe driving habits on area roads.

Local drivers have been told to expect the return of airplanes being used to detect motorists who may be disregarding traffic laws. Once a staple of traffic law enforcement, air speed use declined over the years but the tactic has started again in Union County.

The renewed program is designed to monitor stretches of road that are prone to speeding and reckless driving. Officers believe it will serve as both a deterrent and an effective enforcement tool, as traffic complaints and crash reports continue to trend upward.
