May 15: Editor Don Bailey, of West Liberty Banner paid the Gazette a call last Thursday. He was called here by the death of his cousin, Mrs. J. W. Kyle. Mr. Bailey has been connected with the Banner for forty-six years.

May 19: Miss Betty Stallsmith daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gorby Stallsmith, who reside north of Richwood, is a member of the nurses; graduating class of Flower Hospital, Toledo.

May 19: The Orange Chiffon Cake Contest was held. 1st prize, Mrs. Charlotte Davis; 2nd, Mrs. Mae Fish and 3rd, Mrs. Dolly Burnside. The judging and cake walk was in charge of Mrs. Lenna Moore.

May 16: Mr. and Mrs. Harold Green, E. Blagrove St., direct distributer of Amway Products, announced the awarding of a Personal Sales Award Plaque to Mike and Pat Hamilton, Cherry St. In presenting the award, Green personally congratulated the Hamiltons on the performance of their distributorship, giving special recognition to their outstanding sales achievement record.

May 16: “There’s fish for supper tonight and tomorrow night and tomorrow…” Joe Boyd, W. Bomford St. was the fortunate angler who landed this 35 in., 14 to 15 lb. Muskie last Thursday at Delaware Reservoir. Using large minnow bait, this was Boyd’s first try at “Muskie” fishin’ and was witnessed by Richwood-ites George Henderson and Les Music. May 19: The North Union Middle Schools girls track and field team ended the 1999 season on a positive note at the Highland relays. The Lady Cats placed nine of 12 events, placing fifth in a nine team field. The Cats won three events, setting new meet records in two of them. The quartet of Coree Price, Danica Anderson, Annie Jordan and Tracie Rockenbaugh set a new standard of 55.8 in the 4 x 100 relay. Jessica Wasserbeck recorded a personal best jump of 4-7, leading teammates Hannah Hoffman and Aleah Oelmann to a record setting height of 12-9 in the high jump.

May 19: The annual Dan Kyle Memorial Golf Tournament has been set at the Marion Country Club. The purpose of the tournament has always been to raise money for a scholarship fund in Kyle’s name. Six scholarships will be given 1999 graduates of North Union High School. Tom and Gail Guy are serving as co-chairs of this year’s event.
