Hagedorn out after 25 years leading Scotts

The Marysville-based lawn and garden company announced last week that its board of directors has named Nate Baxter president and CEO, effective immediately, succeeding Jim Hagedorn after more than two decades leading the company. Baxter also joins the company’s board of directors, while independent lead director Pete Shumlin has been elected chairman of the board.
The leadership transition marks the end of Hagedorn’s tenure as CEO, a position he held since 2001, and chairman since 2003. Company officials said the move is part of a long-term succession plan that began when Baxter joined Scotts Miracle-Gro in 2023.
