Culvert work on Route 37 to last until July
Nine culverts are set to be replaced between Richwood and Essex, shutting down that stretch of Route 37 until early July.
On May 4, Union County maintenance crews with the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) shut down Route 37 northbound to replace nine culverts along the roadway. Hannah Salem, the public information officer for ODOT District 6 that covers Union County, said that the work was expected to last approximately 60 days.
“Because culvert replacements require crews to excavate a trench across the full width of the roadway to remove the existing pipe and install a new one, a full road closure is necessary for safety and efficiency,” Salem said in a statement.
