Wildcat ball club rallies late to top Elgin as baseball season opening day nears

There were some good things and some bad things as the North Union baseball team took to the field this past weekend for a pair of scrimmages.

It was the first time it took to the diamond against a team not wearing North Union colors. The bad was a double- digit loss to Mount Gilead on Friday. However, that was followed by an 8-5 win over Elgin on Saturday in which the Wildcats scored all of their runs in their last four innings.

First-year head coach Todd Wilcox was more concerned how his team played than what the final score looked like. “One of things was throwing a high strike percentage while minimizing the number of pitches our guys were throwing,” Wilcox …
