Lady Cats strong season comes to a close following opening round tournament loss to Amanda-Clearcreek

“It was fun until it wasn’t.”

Those comments by North Union varsity girls basketball coach Mitchell Loomis were probably echoed by the Lady Cat players and their fans following Saturday’s sectional final against Amanda- Clearcreek.

Using a high-pressure defense in the second half, North Union battled all the way back from a 20-point deficit to take a 61-60 lead on a three-point goal by Kailin McElroy with 26 seconds left in the game. But the Lady Aces were able to earn the game’s final points as Abbie Liest scored an inside basket with five seconds left for a 62-61 victory.

North Union, which came into the game as the third seed, was able to get a shot off before the buzzer, but it missed the mark, end…
