UC prepares for reduction in SNAP, other programs

Changes coming from the federal and state levels that Union County officials warned about in November are set to hit locally later this year.

The county commissioners approved the annual funding allotment for the Human Services department late last month and Commissioner Tom McCarthy told the board that the reduction, part of the Trump administration’s “Big, Beautiful, Bill,” will take effect in the second half of this year.

“That new funding formula, as part of the ‘Big, Beautiful, Bill’ hits us in the third or fourth quarter,” he said. “So there is going to be a reduction in federal funds flowing to the state for TANF (Temporary Assistance …
