Richwood man faces charges in assault of police officers

A Richwood man has been charged with assaulting a pair of Marysville police officers while he was being arrested.

The Union County Grand Jury has indicted Brian Patr ick Smith, 39, of 275 N. Franklin St. in Richwood, charging him with five felony counts including two counts of assault and three counts of obstructing official business.

According to court documents, at 1:38 a.m. on Jan. 9, 2026, Marysville police were dispatched to 2067 Darby Drive for a dispute call. As a result of the investigation, an officer attempted to arrest Smith for disorderly conduct and obstructing official business, but Smith fought back.

He told the arresting officer to “come get it,” documents claim.
