When a tragedy happens in the world of law enforcement, there are oftentimes two sides to the heartbreak.

On May 30, 2022, 33-year-old Matthew Todhunter was shot and killed by a Union County sheriff’s deputy in Mill Valley after he pointed a BB gun at the deputy in what was later ruled a suicide.

His younger brother, Jonathon Todhunter hopes to use his perspectives in his new job – as a sheriff’s deputy in Union County.

“It’s very two sided…I understood the whole picture rather than just one half,” Todhunter said regarding the shooting. “I think coming here helps because I can use this incident for other people that are affected by mental health.”
