Union County interest earnings remain strong in Q3

Union County continued its trend of receiving healthy interest income on its investment portfolio.

Treasurer Andy Smarra, who serves on the county’s investment advisory board, told the county commissioners Wednesday that third quarter earnings on interest hit $1.5 million. That’s up slightly from the same time last year when totals hit $1.4 million.

The county is on track to exceed $5 million in interest income for the year, something it also hit last year, which broke records. For the end of the year in 2024, the total hit $5.6 million, up nearly $1 million compared to earning totals of $4.5 million in 2023. Of that $5.6 million amount, just under $5 mi…
