North Union FFA soil team advances to state competition

The North Union FFA participated in the Soils Career Development Event (CDE) district competition outside of Kenton on Sept. 23. The team placed fifth in the district to advance to the state competition for the first time since 2011. The state contest was held on Saturday, Oct. 11, where the team did a fantastic job. Students had to judge different types of soils from various pits dug in a field. Students’ knowledge and skills were also tested in evaluating soil properties, land characteristics and management practices for both agricultural and non-agricultural uses.
