UCHD to join county insurance in 2026

The Union County Health Department will be switching insurance to the county’s plan for 2026 in a cost saving move ahead of continued instability in federal and state funding.

At the regular meeting of the board of health on Wednesday, the board discussed the renewal of the health department’s insurance plan and ultimately voted to accept the Union County Commissioner’s offer to join its insurance plan, switching away from Medical Mutual. Open enrollment for the new plan begins in November, which required the board to move fast. Union County Health Commissioner Jason Orcena said that the new plan, the County Employee Benefits Consortium of Ohio (CEBCO), will amount in around $200,000 of savings.
