Cost of SRO could be raised

Fairbanks and North Union may soon have to pay a little more for their school resource officers.

Union County Sheriff Mike Justice said he has been in talks with superintendents from each district, trying to work out a new system.

Justice said the two districts pay “substantially less” than the Marysville and Dublin school districts, which also have contracts with UCSO deputies.

“So, we’re trying to figure out a way to make that more fair across the whole county,” he said.

Marysville and Dublin pay 50% of the salary and benefits for the deputies in those schools. Fairbanks and North Union pay a third of tha…
