Leesburg Township Fire Department to recieve $4M expansion

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development announced a $4 million expansion project for the Leesburg Township Fire Department in conjunction with the Northwestern Joint Fire District.

On Monday, USDA Rural Development officials visited the Leesburg Township Fire Department station to announce the funding for an a l l – n e w , 6,005-squarefoot addition – an add-on that Chief Dave Hawkins of the Northwestern Joint Fire District described as a “significant” upgrade for the station.

Hawkins said the Leesburg Township fire station used to be a volunteer department before becoming a part of the Northwestern Joint Fire District, so it was never meant to house firefighters.
