Hooked on Fishing

On Saturday, June 7, Richwood Park hosted the long running bluegill event, titled “Hooked on Fishing,” which saw 68 boys and girls register and bring multiple fish to the table for measurement. The young fishers learned to bait, wait patiently for a nibble, hook the fish, bring the fish for measuring and then put them back into the lake. Prizes were given away for first, second and third in three age groups, with some of the winners in three age groups shown above. Every child won a prize or received a nice door prize. Families as far away as Urbana, Bellefontaine and Worthington fished in the Derby in honor of George “Soapie” Showalter, a long time resident of the village and supporter of the park and lake.
